On social media, a video has been doing the rounds in which a 108 ambulance driver of M S Ramaiah hospital in Bengaluru, got beaten by a relative of a deceased COVID-19 victim. The victim was a 75-year-old man, who was allegedly brought dead to the hospital around 3.15 pm on Thursday.

The hospital said in a statement that the family members attacked the driver and he had to enter the hospital premises. The police were called later and the matter got closed.

President of the hospital Naresh Shetty, told TNIE that the driver had to enter the COVID ward and the assault took place in the presence of ward doctors. The incident has left all doctors anxious and they were given counselling. They also raised the issue of lack of protection.

Dr K Sudhakar, Medical Education Minister took to twitter to address this issue. He wrote that it is certainly sad to hear that a 75-year-old man died in an ambulance as it was waiting for a patient at M S Ramaiah Hospital. The government is trying to decrease the death count. If the hospital staff had admitted him earlier, he wouldn’t have died. Irrespective of what the issue was, this is definitely not acceptable.
